Giving … orphaned children a home

Foster Care

There are an estimated 350 000 orphans in Sierra Leone, West Africa. The country is 2nd from bottom on the Human Development Index and has the highest infant mortality rate in the world. Yet hidden beneath these dazzling statistics are personal stories of tragedy, such as Tapeh & Teneh’s, who’s parents were killed by soldiers in front of their own eyes; then there is Elogima who, after being physically abused by his mother, was sold for the equivalent of £2 before he was even 2 years old.

Far from being objects of pity, these children have amazing inbuilt abilities to bounce back from the most desperate of situations. With support from ‘A Passion For Africa’ partners in Sierra Leone, these children have begun to rebuild their lives within loving, supportive foster families. It is this type of transformation that ‘A Passion For Africa’ would like to see happen for increasing numbers of children.

Elogima now Moses was sold at the age of 2 for just £2 by his mother who was a drug addict. ‘ A Passion For Africa,’ has housed Moses with a loving foster mother and given the family ongoing financial support. He has grown into a healthy, bright 7 year old boy and does extremely well at school. Because of our generous supporters we were able to give Moses a life that he deserves.
